IIT Roorkee celebrates institute research day for the first time
IIT Roorkee institute research day to be held on March 14 every year.
NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee has celebrated its first research day after the senate of IIT Roorkee approved to commemorate March 14 every year as IIT Roorkee institute research day.
“This day is also significant as the birthday of all-time great scientist Albert Einstein (March 14, 1879) and Pi(π)-Day (3.14),” said the institute in a statement.
The director of IIT Roorkee, professor Ajit K Chaturvedi inaugurated the first IIT Roorkee institute research day and the virtual research gallery, which showed selected researches of IIT Roorkee in a short video and abstracts.
The institute also conducted a research poster presentation competition on March 13, 2022. Those who performed well in the competition were awarded certificates and cash prizes. The third CV Raman memorial lecture organised by the physics department and a virtual talk on “Black Hole Thermodynamics: Then and Now” was also held on the same day.
The research day included virtual talks by professor James Gates Jr. from Brown University, and Abhay Ashtekar, founding director emeritus of the Institute for Gravitation and the Cosmos, Penn State.
“It is time to showcase our research using technologies and to make innovation a way of life. IIT Roorkee has decided to celebrate Institute Research Day every year on 14th March. The enthusiastic participation of the research scholars and faculty shows that this day will become an important day in the Institute’s annual calendar of events,” Chaturvedi said.
