IIT Roorkee inaugurates National Youth Conference on Indian Knowledge System

IIT Roorkee inaugurated the National Youth Conference on Indian Knowledge System (IKS) as part of G20 University Connect.

NEW DELHI: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee hosted the inaugural session of the National Youth Conference on Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) on August 25, 2023, at the MAC auditorium as a part of ‘G20 University Connect: Celebrating the Indic wisdom’.

The IIT Roorkee organised the conference in collaboration with the IKS division of the Ministry of Education, Central Sanskrit University, University of Patanjali; CCRYN, Ministry of Ayush, and IIT Roorkee Alumni Association.

According to IIT Roorkee, the importance of developing genuine study material related to IKS was discussed. Nirmaljeet Singh Kalsi, chairperson, NCVET, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, GoI, was the chief guest of the event. Kalsi highlighted 64 skills available in IKS. According to Kalsi, the Indian government has started certifications in some of these skills.

Books authored by IIT Roorkee alumni Satya Narain and Navin Chandra titled 'Archaeometallurgy of India from Rigveda to Vālmīki Rāmāyaṇa', another book titled 'Subhashitsanskritam', and a third titled 'MahavirkirtiSaurabham' authored by Mahakavi Dr Manoharlal Arya were also released in the inaugural session according to the institute.

The inauguration session was attended by U P Singh, deputy director, of IIT Roorkee along with Anil Gourishetty, organising secretary of the conference, and around 400 delegates from different parts of the country.

Michel Danino from IIT Gandhinagar provided valuable insights during the inaugural session.” We need to focus on student and teacher-centric education and simply textbook-centric” said Danino.
