NEW DELHI: The central government has set up a website where students can upload their “individual rendering” of the National Anthem, rashtragaan.in, for them to be compiled into a single video. The resultant mash-up will be played live on Independence Day, August 15.

The higher education regulator, University Grants Commission (UGC) has written to universities and colleges seeking their “active cooperation” in informing students about the project. Since the COVID-19 pandemic has made public gatherings a health hazard, most of the Independence Day 2021 celebrations are likely to take place online. The project is part of the Union Government’s plans for celebrating Independence Day, Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.

"Also, a running band or ticker "Contribute your rendering of the National Anthem of India at https://rashtragaan.in" may be included in all websites of the university. This may also be brought to the notice of colleges or institutions affiliated to your university," says the UGC letter to principals and vice-chancellors.

All students will also be awarded with a certificate for their contribution towards the celebration of Independence day.

To submit their videos students have to:

1) Log on to the official website - rashtragaan.in.

2) Enter their names

3) Stand and record the video singing the National Anthem

4) Click on upload

5) Download the certificate
