IndiaAI Fellowship: Nominations open for BTech, MTech, PhD students; apply by September 30

IndiaAI Fellowship: Top 50 NIRF ranked institutions have been asked to submit their participation approval for new PhD intakes researching in Artificial Intelligence (AI).

NEW DELHI: IndiaAI - Independent Business Division (IBD) is inviting nominations from BTech and MTech students for the IndiaAI Fellowship. In addition, IndiaAI has asked the top 50 institutions ranked under the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) for their approval to participate in IndiaAI Fellowship for new PhD intakes researching in Artificial Intelligence (AI).

According to the official press release, students can submit their nominations by following the prescribed guidelines mentioned on the website, indiaai.gov.in before the deadline, which is September 30. As per the official press release, this fellowship funding will cover the project's duration for one year for BTech students and two years for MTech students, and it can supplement any current fellowships.

IndiaAI Fellowship: Restrictions on other scholarships, salaries for PhD scholar

As per the official press release, these scholars must not be receiving any other scholarships or salaries at the time of enrollment in the IndiaAI PhD Fellowship. The top 50 NIRF-ranked research institutes are asked to submit their approval on official letterhead, signed and stamped by the head of the institution, agreeing to admit new PhD scholars in accordance with the IndiaAI PhD Fellowship guidelines. This approval are required be sent to Kavita Bhatia, Sci ‘G’ & GC (AI & ET), at kbhatia@meity.gov.in by September 30, 2024.

IndiaAI Fellowship: Eligibility criteria

Interested candidates can have a look at the IndiaAI Fellowship eligibility criteria below.

  • Candidates are required to be enrolled in a full-time BTech programme, having completed their 3rd year, or be newly enrolled in a full-time MTech programme.
  • BTech students must have completed at least 3 AI-related courses by their last semester. Examples of such courses include:
  • Fundamentals of Artificial Intelligence

  • Data and data management systems

  • Computer vision

  • Neural networks

  • Machine learning

  • Natural language processing

  • BTech students are required to have achieved a minimum of 80% marks or an equivalent grade up to their last completed semester.
  • Students with less than 80% marks may still apply if their institute provides a justification, and their application will be reviewed based on the reasoning and fellowship availability.
  • MTech students are required to be pursuing postgraduate studies in AI-related courses.

Endorsements required from supervising professor, institution heads

Nominations for the fellowship must include endorsements from the supervising professor overseeing the project or thesis, as well as from the head of the department, registrar, or the institution’s head. All submissions are required to follow the prescribed format outlined under the section "Submitting the form: Quick Steps" on the official website and must be completed by the stated deadline. Students are strongly encouraged to publish their research papers derived from the project work in renowned academic journals. The official website states, if a student fails to meet the minimum grade requirement, future funding installments will be withheld.
