NEW DELHI: As the 'The Chartered Accountants, the Cost and Works Accountants and the Company Secretaries (Amendment) Bill, 2021’ which includes setting up of an Indian Institute of Accounting (IIA) was passed in Lok Sabha today, several CAs showed disagreement and disappointment. They took to Twitter urging the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) and associated ministers not to establish IIA as it would ruin their hard work and efforts.
A CA said in a tweet, “Respected sir Piyush Goyal and Suresh Prabhu you both are #CA . You do understand how prestigious this degree is. Please dont ruin our hard work and efforts by passing such #IIIA bill today. Save #CAs Save ICAI, save #ICAI autonomy.”

The IIA, as per the parliamentary panel, will be established by a central law similar to other eminent educational institutions like the Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) and the Indian Institutes of Management (IIM). IIA, like IITs and IIMs, will also be set up in different parts of the country and work closely with these institutions along with National Law Universities, and other national and regional institutions.
