IP University withdraws controversial date sheet

NEW DELHI: After announcing the date sheet of various undergraduate and postgraduate examinations, the Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU) Delhi withdrew it the same day on June 2. The university faced intense criticism from various quarters for announcing the dates of offline examination during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. As per the proposed exam schedule IP University released, exams were to start as early as June 20.
The proposed examination was to be held in two shifts, morning and afternoon, with each one of two-hours duration.
IP University exam dates
Earlier the same day, IP University had announced dates for end-term exams of BA, B.Tech, BBA and LLB and other subjects and all exams were to be conducted in offline mode from June 22 to July 14. As per the withdrawn date sheet, the end-semester examination for Bachelor of Arts (BA), was to commence from June 22 and that for LLB (Bachelor of Law), from July 1, while that for BA LLB July 3.
“The revised plan of examination schedule shall be uploaded in due course of time with reasonable sufficient timeline,” read the university notice while withdrawing the date sheet.
Student protests
Careers360 reported that the announcement of dates by IP University fuelled protest among students, who are raising doubt over their safety during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Some of the students also questioned the validity of the examination as the Union Minister of Human Resource Development Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ and the higher education regulator, University Grants Commission (UGC) proposed that the university examination of final students can be conducted as soon as it becomes “feasible” to do so.
Delhi is one of the hotspots of COVID-19 pandemic in the country with around 1000 cases being reported every day now. The UGC also suggested promoting the first and second-year students to the next class based n their past performance.
