NEW DELHI, DECEMBER 26: Jamia Millia Islamia University alumni from all over the world gathered to celebrate second Alumni Day organised by Alumni Association of JMI (AAJMI) and Global Jamia Alumni Network( GJAN). Jauhar Award ceremony was also organised during this function to felicitate the alumni who are doing very well in their respective fields.

Most striking feature of the event was the contribution of nearly 5 lacs rupees by the alumni for the ‘Child Guidance Centre’, a school for special children running within JMI campus. The school managed by Dr Zakir Hussain Memorial Welfare Society is going through a financial crisis. Alumni who donated for the school handed over the cheques to the Registrar JMI A. P. Siddiqui.

While addressing the alumni present in the function VC JMI Prof. Shahid Ashraf said, “It is a matter of great pride that JMI alumni are attending this function in such a large number. It is worth mentioning that they are doing so many good things for the university and contributed for this noble cause too. We expect more such cooperation from them “

Jauhar Award Ceremony was also a part of this function in which notable alumni of the university were felicitated. President, AAJMI, Mr. Shifa-Ur-Rehman explained about the purpose of the alumni association and responsibilities of the alumni towards their alma mater. Gen. Secretary, AAJMI, Mr. Badar Alam presented the annual report of the AAJMI. Chairman GJAN Prof. Mushahid Alam Rizvi delivered vote of thanks.

JMI administration has last year set up AAJMI and GJAN to bring together the Jamia alumni present in different parts of the globe. The objective was to re-establish and reinstate the placental cord between the alumni and the university to facilitate cultural as well as professional exchanges for mutual growth and development. Alumni present in Dubai, Qatar, Chicago, Bahrain have already organised alumni meets at their respective places.
