JMI said that the teachers’ association has been dissolved and doesn’t have the authority to hold a meeting.
NEW DELHI : Jamia Millia Islamia advised teachers to abstain from attending a meeting scheduled today by an “unauthorized body” and warned of action against the participants. JMI said that the body doesn’t have the recognition and authority to hold a meeting as per the Jamia Teachers Association (JTA) rules and has been dissolved.
“Therefore, it is advised that the teachers should abstain from attending or participating or in any manner be part of the meeting. In case of any violation of such advisory the authority will take action against the participants of such a meeting which is planned to be held within the campus of Jamia Millia Islamia with an intention to disrupt the smooth functioning of the university,” read a memo issued by university registrar Nazim Husain Al-Jafri.

The university alleged that the members of the body are claiming to be the office bearers of JTA association and are misleading the teachers. JMI informed that the body will no longer use the premises or finances of the former JTA account because of “their present status”.
Jamia further informed that it has formed a committee to look into the bye-laws and regulations of JTA and will submit a report to the competent authority. Following this, elections will be held for new JTA according to the approved regulations.
JMI on Thursday suspended a professor for "unlawfully" taking up an assignment to conduct the teachers' association election without taking permission from the competent authority. The university has also declared the notification issued by Sonya Surabhi Gupta of Centre for Spanish and Latin American Studies at JMI regarding the conduct of election, as "null and void" and dissolved the present teachers' association with immediate effect.
