JMI Reopen: Chief Proctor said that Jamia would reopen in phases and the notification for the first phase would be released by February 15.

NEW DELHI: After Delhi University announced to reopen DU colleges from February 17, student outfits have started protesting demanding the resumption of offline classes at Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI). The university official, however, assured that the campus will reopen in phased-manner. The JMI reopening date will be announced in the coming week.
Nine students were detained and many others gathered outside Gate Number 20 demanding the reopening of Jamia Millia Islamia and the immediate release of the detained students, students outfit said. The Chief Proctor of the university Waseem Ahmad Khan spoke to the protesters and announced that Jamia would reopen in phases and the notification for the first phase would be released by Tuesday.
The protesting students threatened to go on a stir if the notification for reopening was not issued by Tuesday.
The Chief Proctor of the university, said, "A meeting was held between the Deans and Chairpersons and by next week, a notification for phased re-opening of campus will be issued." The university first plans to call those students whose PhD submissions are near and students from the dentistry department where practicals are needed, said another official.
The JMI administrative meeting is scheduled for tomorrow (February 14), according to The Indian Express report.
After the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) giving a go-ahead to reopening schools, colleges and other educational institutions in the national capital, the JMI had said that they will wait for the UGC guidelines and then they will discuss reopening the campus in their Executive Council meeting.
