NEW DELHI: The Joint Entrance Examination - Main 2024 (JEE Main 2024) score card has been issued by the National Testing Agency (NTA) at around 3 am today. Several students who appeared in the JEE Main session 1 exams 2024 have claimed that there has been a considerable difference in the JEE Main marks vs percentile predictions and some called it a “NTA blunder”. JEE Main 2024 Result (OUT) Live

The JEE Mains results 2024 was scheduled to be declared on February 12. The NTA issued the JEE final answer in the afternoon, but the score cards were not issued. A large number of students took to the social media platforms, including X, requesting NTA for clarification on JEE Main result time. Students also flooded X with memes on NTA delaying to announce the JEE Main results 2024.

The JEE Main session 1 score card 2024 was made available on the official website, jeemain.ntaonline.in, at around 3 am in the morning. Following this students started posting their JEE Main 2024 scores and percentile on social media.

The NTA has adopted a normalisation method to calculate JEE Main 2024 score as it conducts the exam in multiple shifts and sessions. The method was introduced to ensure candidates are neither benefitted nor disadvantaged due to the difference in the difficulty level in each shift. A total of 12,25,529 appeared in both JEE Mains paper 1 and 2. Out of which, 11,70,036 appeared in BE, BTech.

“Results out NTA have done blunder. My friend of 27 JAN shift 1 85%ile at 118 marks. Me got 92%ile at 144. I mean itna drastic change ek saal me impossible hai (It is impossible to have this drastic change in percentile),” a student posted on X.

How to calculate JEE Main 2024 percentile?

NTA JEE Main percentile scores are based on the relative performance of all those who appear for the examination. The marks obtained are transformed into a scale ranging from 100 to 0 for each session of examinees.

The formula to calculate the JEE Main 2024 percentile is (100 x number of candidates who appeared in the session with a raw score equal to or less than the candidate) / total number of candidates who appeared in that session.

“The percentile Score of all the lowest raw scores will depend on the total number of candidates who have taken the examination for their respective sessions,” the NTA said.

Error in JEE Main percentile calculation

“JEE MAIN 2024 - All the "Marks to Percentile" predictions have considerably differences. Any error again in calculations #NTA?” another student asked.

“What the hell is this percentile? For a difference of 3 marks there are 500 students in between. Looks like normalization has got a huge impact this time. Even 260 is not giving 99.9 . This was damn unexpected,” a student who appeared in session 1 tweeted.

“Recheck the percentile for jee mains 27t shift 1 ,shift 2 and 29th shift 1. This is unfair for the hardworking students who got above 200 still not getting 99%ile,” an aspirant responded on the NTA post on display of scorecard.

“Two of my friends scored 140 marks. 27 shift 1 : 90%, 1 Feb shift 1 : 98%. Why so much difference?” another student asked.
