JEE Main 2026: BTech civil engineering cut-offs at NITs show steady demand after years of decline

Try NowAfter losing its charm amongst engineering aspirants, BTech in civil engineering appears to be stabilising its demand, suggest the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main cut-off trends in the National Institutes of Technology (NITs). The first session of JEE Mains 2026, which will serve as the eligibility for admissions to the BTech programme, is due in January.

While the core engineering branch may not be the top choice for top-ranked candidates who chase computer science or electronics engineering, JEE Main closing ranks for civil engineering in top colleges indicate a steady interest in the core disciplines.
The highest Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) closing rank 2025 for the BTech course was 17304 at NIT Tiruchirappalli followed by 22901 at NIT Karnataka and 25239 at NIT Warangal , still keeping up the competition.

The mid-range NITs such as NIT Allahabad, NIT Bhopal, and NIT Nagpur saw JEE Main closing ranks in the range of 35000-45000 showing moderate competition. On the other hand, newer or remote NITs including those in the north-east of India are rather seen as backup. Moreover, the BTech programme is also becoming an entry course for students get the NIT tag and later pivot to non-core jobs.
