NEW DELHI: Amid several protests on JEE NEET postponement due to COVID-19 outbreak, the education minister, Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ on Wednesday said in a video that a large number of candidates and parents wanted to take the entrance examinations. He also said that following the order of the Supreme Court decision on conducting NEET, JEE exams along with the request of students as well as parents, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has decided to conduct the engineering and medical entrance examinations.

Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has issued the unlock 4.0 guidelines PDF on August 29, 2020. The key guidelines 4.0 unlock details which must be notified by JEE Main and NEET 2020 aspirants include that metro rail will be functional from September 7, 2020, in a graded manner for transportation and no restrictions during inter-state and intra-state movements of people. Also, it says, lockdown will be enforced in all containment zones.

Supporting the centre's decision on JEE Main and NEET 2020, states like Odisha and Jharkhand have decided to lift the lockdown for students. The states' government also decided to provide transport and hotel accommodation for JEE Main 2020 and NEET candidates. Odisha CM has lifted the curfew in the seven cities of the state to successfully conduct entrance exams. While opposing the decision on Friday, six ministers of opposition ruled states moved to the Supreme Court seeking review of its order on conducting the entrance exams for engineering and medical entrance exam. On August 17, 2020, the SC rejected the plea to postpone JEE Main and NEET 2020 exams.

Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2020 is an engineering common entrance examination which is scheduled to be held from September 1 to 6. The medical entrance test - National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) will be conducted on September 13, 2020. What are the things to be carried in the JEE Main exam hall?

Aspirants appearing for JEE Main 2020 will have to carry the below-mentioned stuff in the exam hall:

  • JEE Main 2020 admit card

  • Passport size photograph (same as that on the admit card)

  • Government-issued photo identity proof

What is the dress code for JEE Main 2020?

In the released admit card, NTA has not specified any particular JEE Main dress code to be followed while appearing for the exam. However, aspirants can follow the below-mentioned dress code of JEE Main 2020.

  • Any metallic objects will be not allowed in the JEE Main examination hall. So, there should not be any metal part in the dress worn as well.
  • Any piece of jewellery, a watch, or any other gadgets/ ornaments will not be allowed.

  • Face masks are a must these days while stepping out of the house due to the pandemic. However, the authorities shall also provide another mask to be worn during JEE Main April session.

  • Candidates are advised to wear full sleeves clothes that help them completely cover their arms and legs.

  • Students are not allowed to cover their heads or faces during JEE Main 2020 examination.

  • Clothes with noticeably large buttons, brooches, etc. will not be allowed.

NEET, JEE Main 2020: Two students writes to CJI Bobde for exam postponements

For the sake of humanity, two students have approached the Supreme Court through a letter petition to Chief Justice of India (CJI), SA Bobde, requesting to postpone JEE Mains and NEET exams across the nation, as per the reports by the Hindustan Times . Inter-state and intra-state movements allowed: Unlock 4.0 guidelines

In the 4.0 unlock guidelines, MHA has included that no restrictions will be imposed on inter-state or intra-state movements of people and goods, including those for cross-land border trade under treaties with neighbouring countries. No separate permissions/approval/e-permits will be required for such movements.

Unlock 4.0 key guidelines: Metro to resume, lockdown in containment zones

As per the MHA unlock 4.0 guidelines, the metro rail will be functional from September 7, 2020, in a group way. In this regard, SOPs will be issued by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MOHUA). Also the international air travel of passengers is allowed, except as permitted by MHA.

The key guidelines also mention that the lockdown will be enforced in containment zones till September 30, 2020, which means students from such areas need to contact the district authorities or contact the helpline number of ministries for clarifications.

Social/academic/sports/entertainment/cultural/religious/political functions and other congregations with a total of 100 persons will be allowed with effect from September 21, 2020, with wearing masks, social distancing, provision for thermal scanning and hand wash or sanitizer.

Only open-air theatres can open with effect from September 21, 2020.

Unlock 4.0 guidelines released by MHA

Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India has released the unlock 4.0 guidelines on August 29, 2020. As many as ten instructions have been notified in the unlock 4.0 key guidelines PDF. The unlock guidelines by MHA mentions that:

  • Schools, colleges, educational institutions and coaching centres will still remain closed for students and regular class activity till September 30, 2020.
  • However, online or distance learning will continue, 50% of teaching and non-teaching staff will be called to the schools at the time of online teaching/tele-counselling and related work with effect from September 21, 2020, with SOP (Standard Operating Procedures).
  • To take guidance from teachers for studies, Class 9 to 12 students are permitted to visit the schools which are in areas outside containment zones on a voluntary basis.
  • Skills and entrepreneurship training will be allowed in National Skill Training Institutes, Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), Short term training centres registered with National Skill Development Corporation or State Skill Development Missions and other Ministries of Government of India or state governments.
  • National Institute of Entrepreneurship and Small Business Development (NIESBUD), Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE) and other training providers will also be permitted.
  • Higher Institutions only for research scholars (PhD) and postgraduate students of technical and professional programmes requiring laboratory/experimental works are allowed by Department of Higher Education (DHE) in consultation with MHA based on assessment of the situation keeping in view incidence of COVID-19 in states/UTs.

German media on JEE and NEET entrance exams postponement

Germany media is now reporting about the NEET and JEE Main 2020 postponement news. The Germany based website, Handelsblatt, has published an article with a title on 'Protests in India against University entrance exams despite Corona'. The article mentions that the, with international support, Indian youth are protesting for the postponement of medicine and engineering entrance exams (NEET UG and JEE Main) in view of COVID-19 crises. Young Indians are afraid that they will contact Corona during the exam or while travelling at the centre and might carry the virus into their families. The activist Greta Thunberg called the exam conducting authority in this constellation deeply unfair. Luisa Neubauer also said that "It's a question of fairness in education, support comes all over the world."

No shutdown in 7 cities where JEE and NEET 2020 will be held: Odisha CM

Odisha CM, Navin Patnaik has lifted the complete shutdown from the seven cities to conduct Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main and National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET).

19.09 lakh JEE Main and NEET admit cards downloaded till now!

As per the recent data, as many as 7.6 lakh candidates have downloaded JEE admit cards to appear for engineering entrance examination to be held from September 1 to 6, 2020.

The state has also conducted board exams which had more number of candidates appearing compared to the engineering and medical national level entrance exams. “Exams will be conducted in the state as per the guidelines of the Central government. Board examinations were also conducted in the state amid Covid-19 epidemic which has more number of candidates appearing for the exams compared to NEET-JEE. These exams will also be conducted following all safety norms.” said medical education secretary in-charge, Pankaj Pandey to Hindustan Times .
