JIPMER 2019: Live streaming of MBBS counselling from next academic year

NEW DELHI, DECEMBER 29: Jawaharlal Institute for Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER), Puducherry is expected to introduce a live telecast and recording of the JIPMER MBBS counselling 2019 session from the academic year 2019-20. Earlier, this facility was used for JIPMER PG counselling, which was held on December 21, 2018, from 11:30 AM onwards. The facility of live telecast was developed to enhance the transparency during the counselling procedure. The utility of live telecasting is also expected to extend for JIPMER MBBS counselling as well, said the director of the institute.

Dr. R. P. Swaminathan, Director of JIPMER, Puducherry, in a press release stated that the initiative of live telecast made the counselling process more transparent and legal issues can also be avoided. Generally, the parents/guardians with an aspirant are not allowed inside the counselling venue. They feel agitated for the selection of their children. The entire process of recording and telecast was free of cost. Candidates included in the waiting list can also take advantage of this facility to check their scope of admission in MBBS medical courses.

The whole process of live telecast was done using the National Knowledge Networks (NKNs) internet connectivity provided by the National Informatics Centre (NIC), Puducherry.

In order to view the live telecast, the following steps must be performed.

  • Parents must open the ‘Announcement’ section available on the website.

  • Click and open the press release of ‘Live Telecast of counselling’

  • Click on the link provided in the press release to check the live event.

In the announcement section, candidates can also read the notification on JIPMER MBBS counselling 2019, which will be conducted in three rounds. The first round of counselling will commence from June 26 to 28, 2019, only for the aspirants who will qualify in the JIPMER medical entrance examination. The second and third rounds of seat allotment will be conducted on July 24 and August 21, respectively.

Desktops, Laptops, Tablets and Smartphones can be connected to the LCD projector for viewing the counselling process. For better audio qualify, parents can use the headphones or external speakers.

The director also expressed that the facility is being introduced first time in a government medical college, across India.
