JNU students protest against water crisis in hostels; JNUSU alleges VC refused meeting

NEW DELHI: Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) students protested against acute water shortage in hostels on the night of Tuesday. JNU students union president Aishe said that the students are facing a water crisis for the last five days and alleged that the vice-chancellor Santishree Dhulipudi Pandit has refused to listen to the demands of students.

“Acute water crisis for the last five days in JNU campus. The JNU VC refused to listen to students, neither is meeting the hostel representatives. We demand immediate response from the JNU VC and Administration and bring relief to the student community,” Atishi poster on X.

In the purported video posted on social media, scores of students can be seen raising slogans and demanding the administration to take action. Marching through the campus on the night of Tuesday, students demanded regular water for hostels in the campus.

Students' Federation of India (SFI) general secretary Mayukh Biswas tweeted, “Students are raising their voices against the diabolical RSS backed University authorities.”

On September 12, the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students Union in a letter JNU VC urged that the JNUSU office bearers be called for the academic council (AC) meeting. It said that the university should ensure student representation in the decision making which directly impacts the student community.

It also held an all organisation meeting the next day and alleged that the university is trying to not conduct the JNUSU election 2023.
