NEW DELHI: The joint seat allocation (JoSAA) for undergraduate (UG) admissions at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay for the academic year 2024-25 was scheduled in July 2024. Data from the official press release indicates that IIT Bombay remains the preferred institute for top-JEE rankers. As per IIT Bombay, top 10 JEE Advanced rankers have chosen the institution. As many as 24 candidates among first 25 AIR holders have opted for IIT Bombay.

As per the official data, out of the top 1,000 All India Rank (AIR) holders in JEE Advanced 2024, a total of 246 students opted for IIT Bombay after the final round of seat allocation, which was held on July 17, 2024. This includes a notable presence of female candidates, with 29 out of 246 students being women, and the remaining 217 being male.

JoSAA 2024: 72 out of top 100 rankers opt for IIT Bombay

An analysis of the top 100 rankers shows a strong preference for IIT Bombay, with 72 students choosing the institute. Within the first 10 AIRs, nine students opted for IIT Bombay, with one female among them. The trend continues as the rank expands, 24 students from the top 25 and 47 from the top 50 also selected IIT Bombay, reinforcing its status as the preferred destination among top JEE Advanced candidates.

IIT Bombay Seat Allocation 2024: Preferred by 179 out of top 500 rankers

Breaking down the numbers further, 179 students from the top 500 ranks selected IIT Bombay, including 16 female students. This demonstrates a growing presence of female students in one of India’s leading engineering institutes. Additionally, out of the top 1,000 rankers, 29 females and 217 males chose to enroll at IIT Bombay.

JEE Advanced 2024 overview

The JEE Advanced 2024 exam was conducted on May 26, with 1,80,200 candidates appeared for the test. Out of these, 48,248 candidates qualified the JEE Advanced 2024. According to the JEE Advanced toppers list 2024, Ved Lahoti from the IIT Delhi zone secured the highest score of 355 out of 360, earning the top rank in the Common Rank List (CRL). Rajdeep Mishra from the IIT Bombay zone scored 333 and ranked 6th. In the female category, Dwija Dharmeshkumar Patel, also from the IIT Bombay zone, scored 332 out of 360 and secured the 7th rank. The JoSAA counselling 2024 was scheduled from June to July.

Welcoming the new batch, the IIT Bombay director Shireesh Kedare said, "I am proud that IIT Bombay remains the preferred destination for most of the top rankers in the JEE (Advanced) examination. We welcome the students and congratulate them for having selected the best educational path, suited to their aspirations and goals."
