Karnataka announces recruitment for primary, physical education teachers; CET score to carry 70% weightage

Candidates seeking selection for the post of primary school teachers from classes 1 to 5 should have a DEIEd or diploma on special education, as per the eligibility criteria.

The Karnataka Education Department has announced notification for recruitment to various teaching posts. The competitive exam for each post will be held at various district centres. The examination will be conducted in English and Kannada languages only.

The recruitment for various posts include primary school teachers, graduate primary school teachers, physical education teachers, computer science teachers, secondary school assistant, among other positions.

Candidates will have to secure 35% marks in each paper to be considered pass. As per the eligible criteria, for post of primary school teachers from classes 1 to 5, candidates should have a DEIEd or diploma on special education.

Their merit will be calculated with 70% weightage for Common Eligibility Test (CET), 20% for Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) paper 1, 8% for PUC or equivalent examination and 2% for the teacher education course.

Moreover, for candidates with four-year teacher education degrees such as BEIEd, BAEd or BSc Ed, CET will carry 70% weightage, TET paper 1 will have 20% and the four-year teacher education degree 10%.

Furthermore, for graduate primary school teachers from classes 6 to 8, CET score will carry 70% weightage, TET paper 2 will have 20%, the degree examination 8% and the Teacher education course 2% for candidates with DEIEd, BEd, diploma in science education or BEd (special education).

For those applying for computer science teachers posts for classes 1 to 8, the CET score will have 85% weightage, while the prescribed degree will carry 15% weightage.

Whereas, those seeking appointment as physical education teachers, grade 2, will have CET score weightage of 85%, and the PUC or equivalent examination of 13% and the physical education certificate, diploma for 2%.

As per the age relaxations, candidates should be at least 21 years old, while the maximum age limit for Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), category 1 and persons with disabilities is 45 years.

The education department will hold the selection process which will include preparation of merit lists on the basis of the prescribed weightage. Before the selection list, candidates numbering twice the notified vacancies will be called for document verification on the basis of merit.

The department will then issue a final selection list for appointment in order of the merit list.
