NEW DELHI: Kasturba Medical College, Manipal (KMC Manipal)’s Clinical Embryology Centre has been designated as ‘Centre of Excellence’ by Merck Foundation of Germany.
Merck Foundation flagship initiative, 'Merck More Than a Mother', created in partnership with several African governments, aims to enhance healthcare access in underserved communities. “It addresses the pivotal need for improved fertility care in regions that lack adequate resources,” it said.
The Clinical Embryology centre at KMC Manipal has been global collaborator in capacity-building projects of Merck Foundation since 2017. Through the joint efforts of the Merck Foundation and KMC Manipal, around 100 clinicians and scientists spanning 27 countries have undergone top-tier embryology training in Manipal.
“These trained professionals are now at the forefront of infertility care in their respective nations,” the institute said.
The recognition was conferred on the college during the the Merck-Africa-Asia-luminary conference on October 18 in Mumbai.

Senator Rasha Kelej, CEO of Merck Foundation; Frank Stangenberg-Haverkamp, chairman of the executive board of E Merck KG; and first ladies from fourteen African nations were present at the conference.
Sharath Rao, pro-vice-chancellor of MAHE and Satish Adiga, head of clinical embryology programmes at KMC Manipal received the accolade.
Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, has been ranked number 9 in the National Institute Ranking Framework (NIRF 2023) medical category by the ministry of education.
