Kerala colleges to reopen for vaccinated students from October 18: Report

NEW DELHI: The Kerala government has decided to reopen colleges for physical classes from October 18, as per the ANI report. However, according to an official statement, only those students who have been vaccinated with both doses of COVID-19 will be allowed to attend offline classes.

“In revised COVID guidelines, Kerala Govt allows regular classes in colleges/training institutes for fully vaccinated students from Oct 18, only fully vaccinated staff to be allowed; cinema theatres to reopen from Oct 25 with 50% capacity,” ANI said in a social media post.

According to an official statement, “Regular classes in colleges and training institutions for all batches of students, who have taken two doses of Covid-19 Vaccine, can be started from October 18, 2021, engaging the teachers/ trainers/ other staff who have taken two doses of Covid-19 vaccine.”

Kerala has also decided to reopen schools from November 1 for Classes 1 to 7 and 10 to 12. The rest of the classes will begin from November 15.

“Schools in Kerala to reopen from Nov 1st, as per the last Covid-19 review meeting. Classes I to VII and X to XII to begin initially. From Nov 15, the rest of the classes too begin. The Departments Of Education & Health will hold joint meetings for necessary preparations,” Kerala education minister V Sivankutty said in a social media post.

Sivankutty added: “The Edu Dept is making comprehensive prep for the re-opening of schools. For this, meetings with teachers', students', youth and trade unions & orgs will be convened from Sept 30-Oct 2. Following this, with mayors, district panchayat presidents & officers, including collectors.”

The Maharashtra government has also decided to reopen schools from October 4. Today, education minister Varsha Gaikwad held a meeting with the senior officials of the education department ahead of school reopening.
