LPU leads India with 1,418 patent filings, surpassing IITs, NITs: Government of India’s annual report

LPU also excelled in the corporate domain and made its mark in the information technology (IT) field by filing 580 patents in the sector.

NEW DELHI: The Lovely Professional University (LPU) has achieved a milestone by securing the highest number of patent filings in India for the academic year 2023-24. According to the Intellectual Property India Annual Report released by the office of the controller general of patents, designs, and trademarks, the government of India LPU filed 1,418 patents, exceeding collective filings of institutions such as IITs 1,106 patents and NITs 417 patents.

According to the LPU statement, the university also excelled in the corporate domain and made its mark in the field of information technology by filing 580 patents in the IT sector. LPU has been placed third overall in the country for IT-related patent filings, following leading industry giant Jio platforms.

Ashok Kumar Mittal, the member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) and founder chancellor of LPU said: “LPU envisions being a research-intensive university and is leading confidently on this path. LPU’s contributions

LPU's research is evident in its extensive contributions and boasts over 19800+ Scopus-indexed publications in the last five years, 216,674+ Scopus citations, and a Scopus H-index of 160.

The LPU’s research and development cell promotes research culture by facilitating collaborations, managing intellectual property rights, and securing external funding, exceeding Rs 96.43 crores in funded projects.

“With 2900+ granted intellectual property rights (IPRs) and over 550+ global collaborations, LPU continues to redefine the landscape of innovation and technological progress. What truly reinforces LPU’s intellectual stature is the strength of its academic minds,” the LPU statement said.

According to the official LPU statement, total of 34 members have been recognised among the top 2% scientists by Stanford University, USA, acknowledging the university's exceptional research output and global relevance.
