Australia’s Macquarie University and India’s Krea University have joined hands to launch a dual-degree undergraduate program, aimed at providing students a globally immersive education across two continents.

The program, following a 2+2 structure, allows students to study the first two years at Krea University in India and complete the final two years at Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia. Upon completion, students will receive degrees from both institutions. This dual-degree programme will commence from the upcoming academic year.

The formal agreement between the two universities was signed at a ceremony held at the Australian consulate in Bangaluru. The event was attended by Australian consul general Hilary McGeachy and South Asia trade and investment commissioner Vik Singh.

Initially, the programme will be open to students enrolled in Krea’s Bachelor of Arts (Honours) and Bachelor of Science (Honours) programs, with majors in subjects such as history, politics, and social studies.

At Macquarie, students can choose to specialise further in areas like modern history, sociology, or interdisciplinary social sciences including climate, environment and society, and health and wellbeing.

Speaking at the event, Macquarie University vice-chancellor professor Bruce Dowton said, “The world today is one global village and as an academic institution, we ought to create and curate programmes that make our graduates globally relevant. Our collaboration with Krea University helps us offer world-class education combining the strengths of both the institutions. As a collective, we look forward to students experiencing a well-rounded and diverse academic journey, ready for meaningful careers in an interconnected world.”

Krea University vice chancellor professor Nirmala Rao added, "We are delighted to partner with Macquarie University to launch Krea’s first dual degree programme. This exciting initiative presents an incredible opportunity for Krea students to engage in interdisciplinary social sciences across two dynamic learning environments, broadening their perspectives and enhancing their global competencies. We also look forward to expanding our partnership with Macquarie University, fostering collaboration in research, curriculum development, and global classrooms."

This partnership follows Macquarie’s recent agreement with Manipal Academy of Higher Education in December 2024, reinforcing the Australian university’s growing academic footprint in India.
