Maharashtra Government will open the student registration and preference filling facility for the First Year Junior College (FYJC) of Class 11 admissions for rural areas from May 26 at 11 am. Students, teachers and parents will be able to apply for the registration through the official website at mahafyjcadmissions.in.

The Directorate of Education of Secondary and Higher Secondary, Pune has also launched an official Whatsapp channel for Maha FYJC Class 11 admission process. Notably, the Junior College Teachers' Federation have urged the government to continue with offline admission of Class 11 for rural areas, as per the official notice.

The teachers' federation has requested the chief minister, both deputy chief ministers and the education minister to “immediately stop this troublesome online admission process. The federation claims that the online admission process is causing financial and educational losses.

“The federation has opposed the implementation of the online system for 11th admission in rural areas, which is applicable in the municipal jurisdiction of the state, and has written a letter to the Chief Minister requesting him to suspend this process,” the official notice reads.

Maha FYJC: Why teachers' federation opposing online method?

On Wednesday, the Maharashtra government launched the official website for admission to FYJC Class 11, which is mahafyjcadmissions.in. However, due to technical glitch, the website was taken down immediately after its launch.

The federation also said that the online admission method has caused confusion among students and parents. “It will not benefit students in rural areas, but will only harm them. Girls who get free education will have to pay Rs 100 just for the admission process, everyone will have to forcibly get Android phones, and the start of college will be delayed,” it added.

The Junior College Teachers Federation has mentioned several reasons for conducting offline admission process of FYJC Class 11 in rural areas as follows:

  • Internet connectivity in rural areas is poor.
  • Parents, and students living in the rural areas do not have their own mobile phones.
  • The number of students is less than the number of places vacant for 11th grade students.
  • No demand from parents, students to conduct online admissions.
  • They do not have knowledge of the online admission process.
  • Notably, cyber cafes and other places with internet facilities in rural areas have started looting students, parents on a large scale by taking huge internet usage fees.
  • Even during the summer vacation, teachers do not take a lot of leave and devote their full time to this single task in the college, but nothing comes out of it.
  • Online admission also delays Class 11 admissions and students suffer because of it.
  • Unnecessary expenses are being spent for the online process.
  • The process has been delayed on the first day of the admission process due to a technical glitch in the government website, which has created immense anger and resentment among parents and teachers.
