The Association of State Medical Interns Maharashtra (ASMI) has demanded an increase in the monthly stipend for MBBS interns from Rs 18,000 to Rs 30,000, along with a 3% annual hike and a review of allowances. In a press release dated October 21, 2026, the association warned that MBBS interns across Maharashtra could launch a statewide strike from November 2 if the government fails to address their demands.

ASMI said it had announced a protest for October 22, 2026, to press for an increase in the stipend and other financial benefits. The association has asked the state government to provide a satisfactory response by November 2 and issue a written assurance on the proposed revision.

The association said it had submitted several representations to the authorities regarding its demands. It has also called for a review of allowances to account for rising food, accommodation, travel and other essential expenses.
