MBBS: UGC warns against taking admission in Rajasthan medical college

Medicine: UGC’s notice is about a private university in Jhunjhunu that is running MBBS, MD and diploma programmes without NMC permission

NEW DELHI: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has warned medical students against taking admission in courses like MBBS, MD or diploma in Singhania University, Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan. UGC has alleged in a notice issued on January 29 that graduates holding these unrecognized degrees cannot register for practice, as the university is running such programmes illegally.

The UGC has issued a notice based on a letter sent by the higher education secretary of the Rajasthan Government. As per the letter, Singhania University is offering courses without prior approval of the National Medical Commission (NMC) in modern medicine.

The UGC notice says: “As per the letter, Singhania University is running courses in Modern Medicine without prior permission of Central Government/ Board of Governors in Super-session of ‘Medical Council of India’/National Medical Commission. The passed out students of such unrecognized degrees cannot register for practice.”

The letter states that the secretary, higher education has issued a warning and informed all the students and parents not to get admission in MBBS, MD, Diploma in Medicine etc. programmes run illegally by the Singhania University.
