NEW DELHI: The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) will conclude the National Eligiblity-cum-Entrance Test - postgraduate (NEET PG 2023) counselling for stray vacancy round on October 20, ten day delay from the permitted deadline to grant admission to PG medical courses for the academic year 2023-24.
The Supreme Court in August allowed the National Medical Commission (NMC) to extend the last date to conclude the NEET PG counselling 2023 to October 10 as a one-time measure due to delay caused in previous counselling sessions because of COVID-19 pandemic.
NEET PG 2023 exam was conducted on March 5 for candidates vying for 26,168 Doctor of Medicine (MD), 13,649 Master of Surgery (MS), 922 PG Diploma and 1,338 DNB CET seats. A total of 6,102 colleges and 649 hospitals are participating in the NEET PG counselling 2023.
The MCC conducts four rounds of NEET PG 2023 counselling. As per the Supreme Court order in 2017, the committee was directed to conduct the NEET PG stray vacancy round counselling for 100% seats of deemed universities. The NEET PG stray vacancy round 2023 registration will begin on October 9 at the official website, mcc.nic.in.
After several representations from aspirants and doctor groups, the Union health ministry approved the reduction in NEET PG cut-off 2023 to zero making all candidates who appeared for the exam eligible to participate in the counselling.

As the NEET PG 2023 cut-off was revised for all categories, the state medical counselling committees also had to revise the round 3 counselling process.
The Directorate General of Medical Education and Training (DMET) Uttar Pradesh and DME Madhya Pradesh will be concluding the NEET PG mop-up round counselling on October 10. However, states including Rajasthan, Assam, Haryana, Maharashtra will be concluding the round 3 on October 10.
The MCC has directed all participating institutes and medical colleges to treat all Saturday and Sunday as working days due to the limited time for counselling process.
The draft postgraduate medical education regulations stated that the deadline for MD, MS courses will be May 31 and last date for admission and joining for PG super specialty courses will not be extended beyond August 31. However, the counselling schedule has been rescheduled due to change in cut-off and NEET SS exam dates were postponed due to the G20 Summit.
