NEW DELHI: The Ministry of External Affairs Government of India has issued an advisory for Indian nationals and Indian students in Canada today. The advisory is regarding the growing anti-India activities and politically condoned hate crimes and criminal violence in Canada.

The ministry has asked all students and Indian nationals to be careful while travelling to Canada. The MEA said, “ Recently, threats have particularly targeted Indian diplomats and sections of the Indian community who oppose the anti-India agenda. Indian nationals are therefore advised to avoid travelling to regions and potential venues in Canada that have seen such incidents.”

The ministry also asked all Indian nationals and students from India in Canada to register with the High Commission of India in Ottawa or the Consulates General of India in Toronto and Vancouver through the official websites, or the MADAD portal

The Indian high commission and the consulates general has assured that through these registration will be able to connect with Indian citizens in Canada in case any emergency arises due to the ongoing hate crimes.

The ministry has stated that the Indian high commission and consulate general will contact the Canadian authorities to ensure the safety of students and Indian people.

“Our High Commission/Consulates General will continue to be in contact with the Canadian authorities to ensure the safety and well-being of the Indian community in Canada. Given the deteriorating security environment in Canada, Indian students in particular are advised to exercise extreme caution and remain vigilant” the advisory read.

Arindam Bagchi, the spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs in a social media post shared the advisory for Indian Nationals and Indian students in Canada.
