NEW DELHI: Seventeen Kashmiri students at Mewar University have been suspended for ‘Nuisance and Deplorable Act’, Jammu and Kashmir Students Association said. These students will not be allowed to attend classes or allowed to enter college premises until further orders.
It further directed concerned deans, heads of the departments, security officers and hostel wardens to ensure strict compliance.
“They have been prohibited from attending classes and denied access to the university premises. This happened days after an altercation occurred while queuing for food at the mess. A group of Kashmiri students was subsequently assaulted,” the students association said.
“On the basis of the report received and with the approval of the Competent Authority, it has been reported that some of the students have created nuisance and continuously indulging in deplorable activities,” the order read.
“Any such kind of indiscipline cannot be allowed. It has therefore been decided to put the following students under Pending Enquiry Suspension with immediate effect,” it added.
On August 26, thirty-six students at Mewar University were arrested following a clash between two groups in the hostel mess. Over half a dozen students got injured in the violence following a dispute between local students and Kashmiri students.
The police have arrested the students and registered two FIRs for disturbing peace on campus. A total of 600 Kashmiri students are currently enrolled at the university, the PTI reported.
