‘MHT CET 2024 percentile calculated wrong’, Aaditya Thackeray after UGC NET, NEET fiascos

NEW DELHI: Amid massive protests against the NEET UG, UGC NET 2024 exam cancellation, the Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray today sought transparency in the recently conducted Maharashtra Common Entrance Test (MHT CET) engineering exams. He demanded that the marks obtained by students in MHT CET results 2024 be disclosed. The Maharashtra State Common Entrance Test Cell declared the MHT CET results 2024 on June 16.

Addressing a press conference, Aaditya Thackeray said the CET was held in a "weird" way and examinations for two papers were held in 30 batches. Of this, one paper was held in 24 batches. "We demand that the answer sheets be shown to the students and the marks be disclosed to them. Toppers should also be announced in this case," he said.

Referring to the allegations of irregularities in the NEET and cancellation of the UGC-NET exam, the Sena (UBT) leader alleged that the governments at the Centre as well as the state have decided to "destroy" the future of students.

54 mistakes in MHT CET answer key

The MHT CET 2024 is conducted for admission to professional courses such as engineering, management, pharmacy, agriculture, law, medical, AYUSH and fine arts. This year, students raised 1,425 objections against the MHT CET answer key and 54 mistakes were found. Thackeray claimed and added that in one paper, which had multiple select questions, all four options of answer were wrong.

"Since one paper was conducted in 24 batches, there were instances that some papers were difficult, while others were easy. Those who secured less marks have got more percentile and the ones securing more marks have got less percentile," he said. He also claimed that the percentile was formulated in the wrong way.

Maharashtra CET Cell clarifies

In this regard, the Maharashtra CET Cell issued clarification on the percentile calculation method. It said that the provisional answer key along with the response sheet was issued before declaration of results. The MHT CET answer key download link was made available on the official website through the candidate login.

“After completion of the said process, the result prepared by percentile method has been verified by special experts. The queries of the application form received from the concerned candidates are being resolved through the State Common Entrance Examination Chamber. In this regard, candidates / parents / organizations should not have any doubts about the result,” the notification dated June 20 read.
