MNLU Mumbai holds second convocation ceremony; confers degrees to 350 students

NEW DELHI: The Maharashtra National Law University (MNLU) Mumbai hosted its second convocation ceremony. The event was held at the National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA). The ceremony witnessed the conferment of degrees upon 350 students.

The students belonged to various fields including master of laws (LLM) programmes, master of arts (MA) in mediation and conflict resolution, as well as the bachelor of laws (BA LLB) programmes.

According to the MNLU statement, the highlight of the ceremony was the release of the proposal and agreement between MNLU Mumbai and the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) in the presence of member secretary NALSA, Shekhar C Munghate and director NALSA, Samarendra Nimbalkar.

The objective of the agreement is to offer internship opportunities and practical exposure on governance mechanisms to the MNLU students.

The event was attended by Justice Bhushan R Gavai, Judge, Supreme Court of India, and chancellor of MNLU Mumbai, as the chief guest Justice Alok Aradhe, Chief Justice of the High Court of Bombay, judges of the Bombay High Court including Justice A S Chandurkar, Justice Nitin Sambre, Justice Anil Killor, Justice Abhay Ahuja and Justice Prithviraj Chavan (retd). Moreover, vice chancellors of several national law universities and other academicians along with members of the academic, executive, and general councils were also present.

“The chancellor Justice Bhushan R Gavai, declared the convocation open, followed by the conferral of degrees in order of seniority. The graduates took the solemn oath to uphold the dignity and ethical values of the legal profession,” MNLU statement said.

Medals were awarded to meritorious students in recognition of their academic achievements.

The vice chancellor Dilip Ukey highlighted the progress made by MNLU in diversifying its academic and research fields. He also emphasized the establishment of multiple research centers for various domains, such as law, technology law, human rights, corporate governance, dispute resolution, etc.

“Additionally, the vice chancellor also mentioned that MNLU Mumbai has expanded its academic offerings by introducing specialized courses that cater to the evolving needs of the legal profession, ensuring that students receive a well-rounded and industry-relevant education,” the MNLU statement said.

By collaborating with the international and national institutes, MNLU continues to improve its research output, focus on innovation and commit towards excellence in legal education.
