NCPCR requests NTA to reschedule JEE Main 2023 exams, remove 75% eligibility criteria

NEW DELHI: The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) writes to the National Testing Agency (NTA) to reschedule JEE Main 2023 dates and remove the 75% eligibility criteria. Students have previously expressed concern regarding the clash between JEE Main 2023 exams and CBSE practical exams 2023.

"The commission has received a complaint from Mr. Navneet Kumar, Bihar stating that the dates of the JEE Main 2023 were announced one month before the final session-1. In addition, in 2020, four months prior to the exam, NTA finalised and announced dates of the first session-1," read the NCPCR letter.

The letter further added that the notice period of one month is not enough and it is 'unfair and unjust' for the JEE Main 2023 aspirants. "75 percent eligibility criteria are unfair for aspirants who took a year drop," NCPCR further added.

The JEE Main 2023 first session is scheduled from January 24 to 31, 2023 while the CBSE board exams are expected to be held from February 15, 2023. The CBSE practical exams will be conducted in January 2023. The hashtag '#postponeJEEMains' trended on social media when NTA released the JEE Main 2023 exam dates.

The second session of JEE Main 2023 is scheduled to be conducted on April 6, 8, 10-12, 2023. "Assam Boards practicals fare beginning from 25 January, Bihar Board practicals from 10 January, Telangana Boards practical from 20 January and JEE Main from 24-31 January. Aren’t all these dates clashing with each other? Why cannot the government see,” said Aditya Jha, an engineering aspirant.

NTA released the JEE Main application form 2023 at the official website jeemain.nta.nic.in on December 17, 2022. The last date to apply for JEE Main 2023 exam session 1 is January 12.
