NEW DELHI, April 26: Responding to the desperate plea of Kashmiri candidates, National Testing Agency (NTA), has decided to add four more exam centres within the valley for candidates who had been allotted centres outside the state. For the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), several candidates in Jammu and Kashmir had been allotted exam centres in states like Uttarakhand, Rajasthan and New Delhi. A local e-paper has reported that an exam centre will be created each in Kashmir University, Green Valley school Srinagar, Kashmir Harvard school Srinagar and Gandhi College Srinagar. Speaking to a local journalist, NTA director general, Vineet Joshi, confirmed the information “we have allotted additional exam centres to Kashmir for students who were earlier allotted centres in outside states”.

Considerate authority

The authority had issued the admit card for NEET on April 15 after which several students had complained about getting an exam centre outside the state contrary to the options they chose while filling the application form. The candidates had expressed their worry of paying additional travel cost to reach outstation examination centres. Each candidate has already paid a sum of Rs 1400/- or Rs 750/- and paying more for long travel becomes problematic. In such a scenario, the addition of four exam centres within the states will make it easier for the state candidates to appear for India’s biggest medical entrance exam. Reportedly, the authority has also started informing the candidates whose exam centre has been changed through SMS. National Testing Agency is going to conduct the NEET exam for the first time ever. In consideration of the problem at hand, earlier, advisors to J&K governor, Khurshid Ahmad Ganai and Kewal Krishan Sharma had approached the Ministry of Human Resource and Development.
