NEW DELHI, May 4: Ministry of Human Resources Development, through a tweet has announced postponement of NEET 2019 in all exam centres located in Odisha in the wake of disastrous cyclone Fani. The cyclone had hit the Eastern coastal belt early on May 3. R. Subrahmanyam, Higher Education Secretary tweeted "NEET exam scheduled for 5th May in Odisha postponed as per the request of State Govt working on relief and rehabilitation work in the wake of FaniCyclone. Revised dates for the exam in Odisha will be announced soon.” Through an official notification, National Testing Agency has also confirmed the postponement of NEET in Odisha.

There are a total of seven exam centres in Odisha which includes, Angul (3601), Balasore/Baleswar (3602), Behrampur (3603), Bhubaneshwar 3604, Cuttack (3605), Rourkela (3606), Sambalpur (3607). Other such entrance examination has been cancelled until further notice due to the destructive cyclone.

NEET in Cyclone

Gusting winds at the ferocious speed of 175 kmph has already caused heavy destruction in Odisha. The power supply has been disconnected due to which conducting NEET odisha exam is unimaginable. Country-wide over 15 lakh candidates have applied to sit for the exam which is the maximum number of registration seen so far. Since NEET is the biggest medical entrance exam in the country, not just the sheer number of candidates, the amount of effort that has been put to prepare for the examination make it imperative for the authorities to postpone the exam until normalcy is restored in the state. Nearly 11 lakh people have been pre-evacuated from the cyclone hit areas minimizing the number of casualties to a large extent. The cyclone is forecasted to hit West Bengal next.

NEET 2019 updates

As per NEET new updates, NTA had earlier announced correct address and change of 86 examination centres. The exam centres has been changed due to the ongoing general elections. Affected candidates had been advised to download fresh NEET admit cards to know the changes or correct address of their respective exam centre. The authority has also issued an important advisory for NEET candidates for conducting the entrance examination smoothly. NEET is being conducted for admission to around 66,771 MBBS and 27,148 BDS seats in medical and dental colleges of India. The exam will be conducted in total 154 exam cities in the country barring exam centres situated in Odisha.
