NEW DELHI: The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducts the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) for candidates seeking admission to undergraduate medical courses. NTA has not yet announced the NEET 2025 exam dates but early preparation is essential, especially for subjects like physics, which many students find very difficult.

The NEET 2025 exam will have four subjects including physics, chemistry, botany, and zoology and each subject is divided into two sections, Section A and Section B. For each subject, Section A includes 35 questions carrying 140 marks, and Section B includes 15 questions carrying 40 marks in total.

Hence, physics holds equal weightage as the other subjects in NEET exam. According to Ujjwal Singh, founding CEO of Infinity Learn by Sri Chaitanya, “NEET UG Physics preparation begins with a thorough understanding of NCERT to grasp key concepts and theories.”

Last year, NEET recorded the highest number of registrations, with a total of 24,06,079 students applying for the exam. According to the previous year's exam analysis, physics was the most challenging section in NEET UG 2024. The CEO of MTG Learning Media stated that physics is often the toughest subject for many candidates, and this trend continued this year with the section featuring calculation-based questions.

NEET UG 2025: Changes expected

The high-level committee chaired by former ISRO chief K Radhakrishnan, appointed to reform national exams has proposed significant changes to NEET UG, including multi-stage testing and a hybrid computer-assisted pen-and-paper test model. This model aims to enhance security by minimising vulnerabilities associated with traditional paper-based and computer-based tests. While specific details are yet to be announced, these reforms are under discussion.

5 tips to score well in NEET 2025 Physics subject

Considering the level of competition, NEET UG 2025 can be considered one of the most challenging medical entrance examinations in India. Here are five NEET 2025 physics preparation tips to score high marks.

  • Focus on NCERT Syllabus: Students should thoroughly study the NCERT textbooks for Classes 11 and 12 to effectively prepare for the physics section of NEET UG 2025. A clear understanding of the NEET 2025 syllabus is also important while preparing for this entrance exam. According to Chandan Chakraborty, General Manager, Pathfinder Educational Centre LLP, for chapters like semiconductors, atoms and nuclei, NCERT is good a resource. The Director of Narayana Educational Institutions, P Sindhura also suggested focusing on important topics like optics, modern physics, thermodynamics, and mechanics.
  • Practice Numericals Daily: Both conceptual and numerical problems are the main focus of physics in the NEET UG exam. Students should practice different types of numerical questions daily to improve their scores. Aayudh Yashlaha Sir, Faculty at Physicswallah said that calculation speed plays a critical role in determining your NEET performance. Students should practice solving problems within a set time limit to get familiar with the real exam environment. Topics like kinematics, electrostatics, magnetism, and current electricity often involve numerical calculations, so consistent practice is key.
  • Prioritise High-Weightage Topics: In NEET UG Physics, some topics such as modern physics, electrostatics, current electricity, and laws of motion are more important than others. Ujjwal Singh also emphasises solving conceptual problems, particularly in mechanics, thermodynamics, and optics, to strengthen application skills. Knowing which chapters have more weight helps to plan the study time better and ensures focus on topics that give you the most marks.
  • Memorise Key Formulas: During NEET UG preparation, mastering shortcut techniques is essential to save time in the exam. Students should learn important formulas and quick calculation tricks to save time. “Techniques like dimensional analysis and approximation can help you eliminate incorrect options quickly, improving your efficiency during the exam,” P Sindhura said.
  • Solve Mock Tests and Analyse Results: Students should regularly attempt NEET UG mock tests to improve time management and develop the right exam temperament. “Practising previous years' papers and NEET-specific mock tests is essential for improving performance. Timed practice builds speed and accuracy while helping identify weak areas,” said Keshav Agarwal, director of Exemplar Point Pvt. Ltd. Analyse your errors after each test to determine where you went wrong. Pay attention to weak points and try to steer clear of the same errors in subsequent mock tests.
