NEW DELHI: The ministry of health and family welfare has decided to reduce the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test - Master of Dental Surgery (NEET MDS 2024) cut-offs for all categories, the United Doctors Front Association (UDFA) said on a social media post. The NEET MDS cut-off marks 2024 have been reduced by 21.692 percentile in a step to fill the vacant seats.
The health ministry official stated: “I am directed to say that this Ministry has decided to lower the qualifying cut-off percentile for NEET-MDS, 2024 by 21.692 percentile for each category (General, SC/ST/OBC and UR-PWD) in pursuance of DCI's MDS Regulations, 2017 and 2nd proviso in clause 7(1) of DGI's Master of Dental Surgery course (Ist Amendment) Regulations, 2018.”
In this regard, the ministry has directed the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) to revise results in accordance with the lowered qualifying percentiles and requested the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) to take appropriate action on priority basis.

The doctors association claimed that there are 2,001 seats vacant across various state medical colleges. “For instance, Karnataka has 380 seats, Tamil Nadu has 164 seats, and Rajasthan has 175 seats remaining unfilled. All India Counselling: As of 21st August 2024, there are 590 vacant seats, including 174 clear vacancies and 416 virtual vacancies,” the UDFA said in a letter addressing Union health ministry, National Medical Commission (NMC), and MCC.
Highlighting the similar announcement made by the ministry last year, the doctors group said: “These vacancies span crucial specialisations such as Prosthodontics, Periodontics, Oral Surgery, Endodontics, and Orthodontics. Given that many aspiring candidates narrowly missed the current qualifying marks, we believe a reduction in these marks is necessary to ensure these seats are filled,” They also believed that the lowering qualifying percentile will “effectively mitigate” the issue of vacant seats.
