NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court has cancelled the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) PG 2021 Counselling mop-up round for All India Quota (AIQ) seats, as per Live Law. The top court arrived at the decision to resolve the issues arising due to addition of 146 fresh seats to mop-up round which were not available in round 1 and 2 of counselling, the report said.

The bench of Justices DY Chandrachud, Surya Kant and Bela M Trivedi has directed the authorities to conduct a special round of counselling for these 146 seats and permitted candidates who joined through AIQ quota or state quota to participate in the new counselling. The court has also asked the authorities to invite options from students within a day after issuing the fresh notification and complete the process within 3 days.

After the completion of the special round of NEET PG 2021 counselling, the authorities have been asked to hold a mop-up round all over again. The court has upheld the March 16 advisory of the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) that state quota candidates will not be eligible to participate in the mop-up round.

According to the directions of the Supreme Court, the changes in NEET PG 2021 counselling are:

  • NEET PG 2021 counselling AIQ mop-up round has been cancelled and a fresh mop-round will be conducted.
  • A special round of NEET PG 2021 counselling will be conducted for the 146 additional seats which became available after the AIQ Round 2 on 16 March 2022. Students who joined in Round 2 of AIQ or state quota counselling will be able to participate in the special round without any penalties.
  • A fresh mop-up round will be conducted after the special round and will be completed within a week.
  • Students who have joined in round 2 of state quota will not be eligible to participate in mop-up round.
