NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court will hear the plea seeking postponement of the National Eligibility Entrance Test for Postgraduate (NEET PG) 2022 exam on May 13, the Live Law reported. NEET PG 2022 is scheduled to be held on May 21. When the plea was mentioned before the Supreme Court for urgent hearing, Justice DY Chandrachud said “How can we postpone a national exam? We will list it for hearing first.”

The All India Medical Students Association (AIMSA) had filed a plea in the top court seeking deferment of the NEET PG 2022 scheduled on May 21, an advocate in the SC informed via Twitter.

Many aspirants have been demanding the postponement of NEET PG 2022 exam date due to the delay in NEET PG 2021 counselling, and less gap between entrance exam and counselling. Aspirants also said that conducting the NEET PG 2022 exam on May 21 would make around 5,000 medical interns ineligible to appear for the exam.

Recently, AIMSA had written a letter to Mansukh Mandaviya who is the union health minister requesting to postpone the NEET PG 2022 exam and NEET MDS 2022 by 8 to 10 weeks.

According to the letter, the issues faced by NEET PG and NEET MDS 2022 aspirants are:

  • NEET PG 2021 counselling is still underway and scheduled to be over by May 3, 2022. The uncertainty regarding the counselling process has left students in dilemma about its proper conduct and concluding date.
  • The difference between NEET PG 2022 date and NEET PG 2021 counselling mop up round is too less for a student to prepare for the exam. This will lead to stress amongst mid-ranker students who form a huge chunk of the appearing candidates as they hope to score better if they do not get a seat in counselling.
  • Students who didn’t get a seat in NEET PG 2021 counselling and didn’t register for NEET PG 2022 as they were busy with counselling as well as those who lost seats due to cancellation of mop-up round counselling need time to register and prepare for exam.
  • 5,000 interns who served during COVID-19 pandemic are ineligible for NEET PG 2022 and NEET MDS due to delay in their final exams.
