NEW DELHI: Many medical organisations, doctors and aspirants reacted to the Supreme Court verdict allowing the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) PG Counselling 2021 to continue with the Economically Weaker Section (EWS), Other Backward Classes (OBC) quota.

The Federation of Resident Doctors’ Association (FORDA), which had organised protests and strikes in December against the delays in NEET PG counselling 2021 said that it welcomes the judgment of the Supreme Court of India. FORDA had joined the court case yesterday and their laywer pointed out that if the new batch of postgraduate students are not immediately admitted, the section of the workforce that consists of PG students could reduce to 33% of its usual strength in the middle of another wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Resident Doctors Association of Dr RML Hospital in Delhi thanked the Supreme Court, health minister, and the directorate general of health services for helping the resident doctors in their fight for justice.

The Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) also expressed gratitude towards everyone who helped the doctors in their struggle for justice. The association, in a statement, further urged the government to immediately announce the NEET PG counselling dates so that the healthcare workforce and associations can focus on patient care and the increasing Covid cases in India.

We thank SC for clearing PG counselling .It is unfortunate for this young doctors had to strive vociferously for 4 months on the streets and succumb to police brutality . Hope the Ministry will expedite the admission process and enable the classes to be started with in two weeks.

Doctors also asked what the point of the delay was if the existing reservation policy was to be retained for this year.

The Supreme Court final hearing regarding the petition on the EWS quota is scheduled for the third week of March. Although the SC verdict on NEET PG 2021 is out, the NEET PG, UG counselling dates are yet to be announced by the government.
