NEET PG counselling 2024 delay, SC’s decision to postpone hearing stoke anxiety, IMA writes to JP Nadda

NEW DELHI: Over 40 days after the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) started the NEET PG counselling registration 2024, aspirants still await the official schedule. Adding to the uncertainty, the Supreme Court further postponed the NEET PG hearing to November 19 rising anxiety among aspirants.

In this regard, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has once again urged the Union health minister JP Nadda to publish the MCC NEET PG counselling schedule 2024 immediately. Reiterating how the delay in uploading NEET PG counselling schedule on official website, mcc.nic.in, is affecting thousands of young doctors, the IMA said: “These aspiring professionals deserve clarity and respect, particularly after dedicating years of rigorous study and effort to reach this stage.”

New changes were introduced in the National Eligibility-cum–Entrance Test postgraduate (NEET PG 2024) after the announcement of exam date, which was opposed by the students as there was no clarity on the normalisation method used for preparation of results. In addition, the NBE did not announce the NEET PG cut-offs and raw marks obtained by individual candidates in the exam. Demanding the NBE Board to make the answer key and raw marks public, the NEET PG aspirants approached the Supreme Court in August.

However, the top court has been rescheduling the NEET PG SC hearing owing to non-representation of Government Counsel and due to festival. The computer-generated hearing date for NEET PG plea is November 19. Notably, the court which heard the matter on October 25 said that the matter will be heard on a “non-miscellaneous day”. It also took note of the last-minute changes introduced by the board.

Meanwhile, the NBEMS recently announced that it will prepare state-wise NEET PG merit lists for counselling and admission into MD, MS and other programmes. Federation of Resident Doctors’ Association (FORDA), on the other hand, claimed that the counselling will begin from November 11, as per the latest updates.
