NEET UG 2024: MBBS aspirants continue to demand postponement due to Lok Sabha polls

NEW DELHI: With just a month left for National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test Undergraduate (NEET UG 2024), medical aspirants continue to demand postponement of the exam. Over 25 lakh candidates who have registered will be taking the single-largest medical entrance exam on May 5.

Several students have been asking, “Will NEET UG 2024 be postponed?” on social media platforms. Although several state-level entrance exams and some of the national-level exams, including NEET PG 2024 and CA May exams, have been rescheduled due to the Lok Sabha elections, the NTA had clarified in March that the NEET UG, JEE Main exams will not be postponed. Recently, the NTA reiterated that there will be no impact on exam eligibility for voters.

Candidates, however, continue to express their concerns about transportation and other difficulties in taking the exam during the general elections 2024. The Election Commission has announced to conduct the 18th Lok Sabha elections from April 15 to June 1.

The NEET exam 2024 is scheduled to be conducted on May 5 from 2 pm to 5.20 pm. Through the exam, admission to MBBS, dental, and other UG medical courses will be offered.

Each section will be divided into two sections - Section A and Section B - carrying 35 and 15 questions respectively. Candidates will be awarded 4 marks for every correct answer while 1 mark will be deducted for each wrong answer.

Postpone NEET UG 2024

A large section of students continue to demand the union health ministry to postpone the NEET UG 2024.

Tagging Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a X user said: “Hello @narendramodi Ji postponement of 5 - 7 days is reasonable. It will not make any difference to the students who have prepared and those who have not prepared. The only difference will be that we will not have to wait for 5 years to vote.”

“NEET-2024 Date To be held on 5.5.2024, 7.5.24 is the election in Gujarat and other states. Government employees (husband/spouse employees) are worried as they are on election duty(5-5 to 7-5). NEET-24 is proposed to be postponed till the month of June,” another aspirant said.

NEET UG paper leak news

Recently, there were several reports of exam paper leaks. The Bihar Public Service Commission Teacher Recruitment Examination (BPSC TRE 3.0) question paper leak was one of them. The Economic Offences Unit (EOU) of Bihar Police investigated and caught many people involved in the paper leak. It also found that the paper leaked before it went to the printing press.

Vishal Chaurasia, who is allegedly the mastermind behind BPSC TRE 3 exam paper leak, may leak the NEET UG questions as well, a witness claimed on X. A physics teacher Anurag Tyagi posted the video on X and urged the government agencies to take immediate action as this will impact 25 lakh aspirants.
