New CBSE syllabus for Classes 3, 6 from upcoming academic session: Report

NEW DELHI: The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) is going to revise the syllabus for Classes 3 and 6 of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), as per a Times of India report. The revised CBSE syllabus is in line with the recommendations of the National Curriculum Framework (NCF) and will come into effect from the upcoming academic year, the report said.

NCERT reportedly wrote to CBSE notifying the board about releasing the revised syllabi based on their meeting held on March 14. Along with the syllabus, the council will also provide a syllabus bridge programme Class 6 and guidelines for Class 3 to CBSE, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS), and Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS), the letter said. The bridge course will help students transition smoothly to the new perspective.

The council informed in the letter that new activity books and textbooks are being prepared in accordance with NCF 2023 and the new syllabi will introduce students to new areas of study including arts, physical education, vocational studies, and ‘The World Around Us’ for Class 3.

Revised time table for schools

CBSE has been asked to inform the school heads, teachers and parents about the revision of time table and change in time allocation for Class 3, 6 students as the board has been advised to strategize engaging students of these classes in activity-based learning at the beginning of the academic year 2024-25. NCERT has also asked it to encourage schools to make adaptations to their schedules.

“CBSE’s prompt action on this matter in collaboration with KVS and NVS would be highly appreciated,” the NCERT director said in the letter. The council further emphasized on the joint efforts of CBSE, KVS, and NVS under the direction of school education department, syllabus and teaching-learning material committee, and curriculum framework oversight committee for implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) at school level.
