IIM Bangalore welcomes students - Tells them to adapt to changes

New Delhi: The Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB) admitted a new batch of students to its two-year full-time MBA programmes - the Postgraduate Programme in Management (PGP) and the Postgraduate Programme (Business Analytics) on Saturday in the midst of the pandemic. A total of 488 students entered PGP and 46 students joined PGP BA.

In a release by IIM Bangalore, the director of the institute, Rishikesha T. Krishnan stated, "The current time has seen a lot of previous assumptions on business, management and economy being questioned.” He further added that during the prevailing time, students could write new playbooks in business and management.

In his welcome address at the inauguration program on Saturday, he also said analysts expect the economy to recover by mid-2021, and said that manufacturing growth is expected in India with new schemes.

Padmini Srinivasan, Chair of the Master of Business Administration program, said that in the new batch, apart from students from different parts of the country, two students from Korea will also join.

About the Batch

Ashis Mishra, Chair, Admissions and Financial Aid, said for PGP, out of 488 candidates, 423 are of engineering background; 146 are female and 342 are male; the average work experience is approximately two years and the average age is 25. For PGP BA, out of 46, there are 86.96 per cent males and 13.04 per cent females; the average age is 23; the highest number of students is from the engineering background-53 per cent from the IITs / NITs and the rest from the recognized universities. However, there are also students with other backgrounds, such as Computer Science , Engineering, Mathematics, Economics, Biotech, etc. A total of 54 percent of the batch had some work experience, while 45 per cent had no experience, he added.

U. Dinesh Kumar, Chairman, Master of Business Administration (Business Analytics), said that after almost 47 years, the IIMB has launched a two-year full-time MBA (PGP BA).

Abhoy K. Ojha, Dean, Academic Programs, added that IIMB was easy to respond to changes. "The school organized a virtual convocation, invested in technology to provide online education for faculty and students respectively. We have professional support staff to help the cause of digital education.
