NIRF Management Ranking 2018 brings surprises

NIRF India Rankings 2018 for management colleges threw a number of surprises with some private colleges unexpectedly getting higher ranks than many established institutions including a few IIMs even as IIM Ahmedabad retained the top slot followed by IIM Bangalore and IIM Calcutta in the top three positions.
SJMSoM, IIT Bombay, which was not ranked in the last year’s NIRF Ranking has got the fifth position this year leaving behind IIM Kozhikode, VGSoM, IIT Kharagpur and DMS, IIT Delhi in the sixth, seventh and eighth positions respectively. XLRI Jamshedpur has secured the 10th position. Further, IIM Indore has slipped from 10th position in 2017 to 11th in 2018. The table below brings a comparison of top 25 B-schools for the past two years of NIRF Ranking.

New Entrants leaving behind premier institutes
The NIRF 2018 rankings between 11 to 20 for management institutes shows the presence of new IIMs, private B-schools and IITs. Surprisingly, Great Lakes Institute of Management Chennai, which was not ranked within top 50 in the year 2017, has secured 16th rank in NIRF 2018 ranking. On the other hand, institutes like DIME, IIT Kanpur, SPJIMR Mumbai and IIFT have slipped to 17th, 19th and 23rd positions respectively.
Lovely Professional University has been ranked 38 leaving behind B-schools like IIM Ranchi (40), DMS, Banaras Hindu University (39), IIFM Bhopal (41) and IRMA Anand (43).
BIMTECH Greater Noida, Lal Bahadur Shastri Institute of Management New Delhi, Amity University Noida and Aligarh University have been ranked in the ranking range of 45 to 50. Institute of Management and Entrepreneurship Development Pune has been positioned at 50th rank.
Institutes which have featured for the first time in the NIRF Ranking include SJMSOM IIT Bombay, SIBM Pune, IBS Hyderabad, NMIMS Mumbai and IMI New Delhi.
FMS Delhi, JBIMS, GIM Goa, DoMS- IIT Madras among missing institutes
Noted institutes like FMS Delhi, DoMS IIT Madras, DMS, IISc Bangalore, JBIMS Mumbai, SCMHRD Pune, Prin. L N Welingkar Institute of Management Development and Research Mumbai, IFMR Chennai, MNIT Allahabad, DMS, DTU Delhi, Goa Institute of Management, MANAGE Hyderabad, TAPMI Manipal are some of the institutes which are missing in the top 50 Management Institutes by NIRF 2018 Ranking.
In the last year’s ranking, Goa Institute of Management and Prin. L N Welingkar Institute of Management Development and Research Mumbai had secured 37th and 47th ranks respectively.
