NLSAT PhD 2023 for admission to NLSIU research programmes on April 30; eligibility, selection process

NEW DELHI: The National Law School of India University (NLSIU) will conduct the National Law School Admission Test - PhD (NLSAT PhD) 2023 for admission to PhD law and PhD interdisciplinary programmes for the academic session 2023-24 on April 30. Candidates can apply for NLSAT PhD 2023 on the official website – nls.ac.in. The last date to apply is April 6, 2023.

Candidates will have to pay an application fee of Rs 3,000. They will have to submit a research proposal of 6-8 pages. There are a total of 8 PhD seats in NLSIU including four PhD law seats and four in interdisciplinary.

The duration of the NLSAT PhD 2023 exam will be 150 minutes. The exam will contain research aptitude carrying 50 marks and essays or answers on law topics carrying 50 marks. Candidates will have to secure above 50% in the written test for making a research proposal or oral presentation before the panel of experts.

NLSAT PhD 2023 selection process

Candidates will be selected for admission to PhD programmes in NLSIU on the basis of marks obtained in NLSAT PhD 2023, research proposal and oral presentation. The written test carries 70% weightage whereas research proposal and presentation carry 20% and 10% weigtages, respectively.

NLSAT PhD 2023: Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility criteria for PhD law is as follows:

  • Candidates having a 5-year or 10 semester or 15 tri-semester bachelor’s degree programme in law through regular mode from a recognized university having a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade. (70% for SC, ST, OBC-NCL, persons with disabilities)
  • Candidates having a 3-year or 6 semester or 9 tri-semester bachelor’s degree programme in law (LLB) through regular mode from a recognized university having a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade. (70% for SC, ST, OBC-NCL, persons with disabilities)
  • Candidates having a Masters in Law degree (LLM) through regular mode from a recognized university having an aggregate marks of at least 55% marks or equivalent grade (50% of marks or equivalent grade in case of SC, ST, OBC-NCL, persons with disabilities)

Eligibility criteria for PhD interdisciplinary is as follows:

  • Candidates having a masters degree in any discipline through regular mode from a recognized university having an aggregate marks of at least 55% marks or equivalent grade (50% of marks or equivalent grade in case of SC, ST, OBC-NCL, persons with disabilities)
  • Candidates having passed the Company Secretaryship exam conducted by the Institute of Company Secretaries (ICSI) and have been awarded ACS while having LLB degree
  • Candidates having passed the Chartered Accountants (CA) exam conducted by the Institute of Chartered Accountants (ICAI) and have been awarded membership along with LLB degree
  • Candidates having Master of Business Laws (MBL) degree from NLSIU with a minimum 4 CGPA and having a bachelor’s degree from a recognized university.
