The National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued a clarification on determining eligibility for teaching positions under the Medical Institutions (Qualifications of Faculty) Regulations, 2025 (MIQF-2025). The clarification has been issued through a public notice by the Post Graduate Medical Education Board (PGMEB).
In a communication issued to medical colleges, institutions, universities, NBEMS-accredited hospitals, and other stakeholders, the NMC referred to the public notice dated July 16, 2026, explaining the role and responsibilities of the PGMEB in dealing with requests related to faculty eligibility.
According to the notice, the PGMEB has been receiving requests from individual faculty members, medical colleges, medical institutions, universities, NBEMS-accredited hospitals, and other stakeholders seeking eligibility certificates or clarifications for appointment and promotion to teaching positions.
The commission clarified that the public notice explains the role of the PGMEB and specifies the categories of cases that may be considered by the board. These include only those cases that are unclear or difficult to explain under the provisions of the MIQF-2025 regulations.
