NEW DELHI: The National Medical Commission (NMC) is offering a district residency programme (DRP) for the medical training of postgraduate (PG) students during the ‘Char Dham Yatra’ in Uttarakhand in the coming months.

According to the NMC notice, the DRP will offer an opportunity to medical PG students to learn about the needs of the people coming to resource-challenged health services in Uttarakhand during the Char Dham Yatra, as there will be an increase in the demand for healthcare services in the state.

The requirement for medical services will be different, unlike other places. Tourists will be exposed to high-altitude-related medical complications, offering opportunities for training of post-graduates.

The Uttarakhand government has appealed for healthcare services to be supported by other resources as well. Many PG doctors are also considering this opportunity to serve.

“Considering the unique opportunity of learning a different area, the National Medical Commission (NMC), considers this as a potential benefit to post graduate training. Therefore, posting of students who are willing to provide services may be subsumed under the district residency programme (DRP),” the NMC notice reads.

The Uttarakhand government has also appealed to the NMC to consider this as a unique opportunity for the training of medical students. The nodal officers of the state will facilitate the posting of PG students to help the healthcare authorities of Uttrarakhand in the coming months during the Char Dham Yatra.
