NEW DELHI: The National Medical Commission (NMC) has invited applications for establishment of new medical colleges intending to offer undergraduate courses and increase in MBBS seats for the academic year 2025-26. The registration process has begun and the last date to submit the application form through the official website, nmc.org.in, is January 5.
The assessment process for granting permission to set up medical colleges and increase MBBS seats will broadly include evaluation of application form and inspection of institutions.
All the applications for MBBS and PG medical courses will be evaluated on different successive levels. The institutes will have to submit self-attested essentiality certificate (EC), Consent of Affiliation (CoA), application fees, bank guarantee, relevant letters such as status of MBBS course, letter of permission, AEBAS data report, etc, preferably with digital signature.
As per the revised fee structure , setting up a medical college in India has become more expensive. The fee for establishment of medical colleges with 50 MBBS seats is Rs 15 crore for 6 years. Applicants will have to pay Rs 20 crore for starting a new college with 100 MBBS seats and an additional Rs 5 crore if applying for 50 more seats.
For both UG and PG medical courses, NMC will conduct inspections in the institutions for one or more days. They will examine the infrastructure, quality of medical education, faculty, AEBAS data, clinical material and other clinical indicators, and financial status of the college to ensure compliance with the latest NMC guidelines. Moreover, it may also interview the staff and students during the evaluation.
