NMC drafts amended Post Graduate Medical Education Regulations 2025. Each department will be headed by a professor.

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has drafted Post Graduate Medical Education Regulations 2025 to amend the previous guidelines. As per draft regulations, each department will be headed by a professor and the post of HoD will be rotated every three years based on seniority. The commission has invited feedback from students, faculty, and the medical community on the changes.
"The post of the Head of Department (HoD) will be rotated every three-years amongst professors and associate professors who are eligible to become professor, who holds medical postgraduate degree, based on seniority in the department,” the guidelines said.
Additionally, NMC has revised feeder broad specialty qualifications for super specialty courses. “The National Medical Commission proposes certain amendment to the regulation 7.1 under the heading department in annexure-7 of the regulations under the heading “feeder broad speciality qualifications for super speciality courses” of the principal regulation, that is, PGMER 2023, the draft regulation amending the regulation 7.1 of PGMER 2023 and in annexure 7 of the regulations under the heading “feeder broad speciality qualifications for super speciality courses” have been prepared and approved by the competent authority following due procedures,” the commission said.
