NEW DELHI: Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC) has announced the Odisha Civil Services Prelims exam 2024 date. As per the schedule, the Odisha Civil Services prelims examination will be conducted on October 27, 2024. Candidates registered for the exam can check the OPSC Civil Services prelims 2024 schedule through the official website at opsc.gov.in.

Candidates who qualify in the preliminary exam will be eligible to appear for the OPSC Civil Services main examination. The OPSC Civil Services mains exam date will be announced in due course of time.

“It is for information of all concerned that, the Commission has decided to conduct the Odisha Civil Services Preliminary Examination-2023, pursuant to Advt. No. 20 of 2023-24 tentatively on 27.10.2024 (Sunday). The detailed programme of the said examination shall be notified later. 2. The candidates are advised to visit the Commission website at http://opsc.gov.in for further information”, the official notice read.

OPSC Civil Services 2024 selection process

The OPSC Civil Services selection process involves three main stages:

1. Preliminary Examination

  • Objective Type: It consists of two papers, General Studies Paper I and Paper II (CSAT).
  • Total Marks: 400 marks (200 marks each paper).
  • Qualifying Nature: The prelims exam is only for shortlisting candidates for the Mains exam. Marks obtained in this stage are not counted for final merit.
  • Negative Marking: Usually, there is negative marking for wrong answers.

2. Main Examination

  • Written Exam: The main exam is descriptive in nature.
  • Papers: Compulsory Papers: Includes Odia Language, English Language, English Essay, and General Studies (Papers I to IV). Optional Papers: Candidates can choose two optional subjects, each with two papers.
  • Total Marks: 2600 marks (including optional subjects).
  • Language Papers: Odia and English are qualifying in nature, while other papers contribute to merit.

3. Personality Test / Interview

  • Candidates who qualify in the mains examination are called for the interview.
  • Marks: 250 marks.
  • Purpose: It assesses the candidate's overall personality, leadership qualities, and suitability for administrative positions.

Final Merit List

  • The final merit is prepared based on the marks obtained in the Main Examination (Written) and Personality Test/Interview, totaling 2850 marks.
