Pondicherry University librarian M Vijayakumar gets National Best Librarian Award

M Vijayakumar received Dr Harish Chandra-Sushila Chandra National Best Librarian Award for the year 2021 for his contributions to library and information.

NEW DELHI: Pondicherry University’s librarian M Vijayajumar has received the Dr Harish Chandra-Sushila Chandra National Best Librarian Award for the year 2021 for his contributions, services and achievements to the library and information profession. Vijayakumar got the award during the Society for the Advancement of Library and Information Science (SALIS) 2022 conference held at Tamil Nadu.

Vijayakumar also received the best Librarian Award 2020 from Indian Librarian Association and Government of Karnataka in 2015. He has delivered more than 75 invited lectures and published over 90 research papers in journals and conference papers. He also visited United Arab Emirates (UAE), Iran, China, Nepal, Srilanka, Malaysia and Thailand for professional activities.

Vijayakumar has previously worked at Central University of Rajasthan, Birla Institute of Technology (BITS), Bukhatir Education Advancement and Management (BEAM)-UAE, Kuvempu University, National Aerospace Laboratories and others.

Akhtar Parvez, Maulana Azad National Urdu University received the National Best Librarian Award for the year 2020 whereas L Radha, Thiagarajar College of Engineering bagged the award for the year 2022.

“Like-minded library professionals established SALIS as a professional association in March 2002. The primary focus was to provide need-based service to the profession and to work for the advancement of Library and Information Science (LIS). The current focus of SALIS is to ‘Reach the Unreached’ LIS professionals with rural settings in order to minimize the digital divide. It also pays attention to the working library professionals of Public Libraries, the segment which almost remains as an area of neglect,” reads the official website of SALIS.
