NEW DELHI: The number of pre-placement offers (PPOs) has nearly doubled at Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad.

In 2018, 19 of the institute’s students had PPOs. That is, the firms where they worked as interns wanted to recruit them full-time.

This year, the number of PPOs has increased to 37 – last counted on October 30, 2019. This is a substantial increase over even 2017’s number of 27.

Placement season

The first phase of campus placements will begin on December 1 and will continue till December 20. The second phase will begin in January 2019 and continue till the end of the academic year.

A total of 476 students have registered for campus placements, said IIT Hyderabad in a statement.

It further said that firms that made the PPOs include Microsoft, DE Shaw, Goldman Sachs, Arcesium, Arista and Amazon. “Most of the offers have come from information technology and information technology-enabled services,” said the statement and the bulk of the PPOs are for undergraduate students.

For Pradeem Kumar Yemula, faculty-in-charge, placements, the doubling of the number of PPOs presents an “encouraging outlook for the upcoming placement season”.
