BJP rejects Priyanka Gandhi's RML hospital claims, says student injury facts were 'twisted'

New Delhi: The BJP on Tuesday accused Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra of presenting "wrong and twisted facts" about a young girl student undergoing treatment at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital (RML) here. Participating in a debate on Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026 in Lok Sabha, Priyanka Gandhi talked about her visit to RML hospital last week to meet the young woman injured in the protests and the interaction with her mother.

"Few days ago, we visited RML hospital few days ago to see the condition of a student, who is fighting the biggest battle of her line in the ICU..." the Congress MP said, and asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah as to what was the need for suppressing an innocent little girl, humiliating girls and tearing their clothes, unleashing tear gas, pellet guns, and AK-47s on students.

Rejecting the Congress MP's claim as "wrong", BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra said, "Priyanka Gandhi said a girl student was admitted to Intensive care Unit of the RML because she suffered police brutality while participating in Sansad Chalo Andolan. The fact is that she sustained injury in the stampede like situation, not in police action." "Priyanka's claim that the girl was injured in police brutality is wrong.

Facts have been twisted," the BJP MP told reporters in the Parliament House complex. Patra also slammed Priyanka Gandhi for calling media "paaltu (pet)', saying media is the forth pilar of the democracy and it must be respected. "It's condemnable. I think, the Congress has in a way abused Indian media. Media should also take note of it," the BJP leader said. Union minister Arjun Ram Meghwal said Priyanka Gandhi should have kept her focus on topic of the debate in Lok Sabha, instead of politics. "The topic was education reform. She and several others (in the opposition) politicised it. Speaker also asked her to focus on the topics.... We wil give a response tomorrow," the senior BJP leader told reporters in the Parliament House complex, when asked about Priyanka Gandhi's remarks in Lok Sabha.
